Vitamin B1 Benefits – (Thiamine)

The role of Vitamin B1 is to digest carbohydrates and thereby form ATP or adenosine trio phosphate, which is the ‘basic energy compound’ needed by every cell in your body to function effectively.

Thiamine is effective for treating a number of diseases and conditions caused by its deficiency. People who have become alcoholics can benefit greatly by taking thiamine, as they can develop a condition known as WKS, Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. Regular thiamine administration helps to reduce withdrawal symptoms from alcohol.

Other benefits of vitamin B1 or thiamine include:

  1. – for the treatment of maple-syrup urine disease, Leigh’s disease, and other such genetically developed diseases
  2. – for the prevention of WKS (see above)
  3. – for the prevention of the formation of cataracts (so it’s good for your vision too)
  4. – for the prevention of kidney ailments in those affected by type 2 diabetes by decreasing the amount of albumin in urine
