Vitamin B12 is a vital nutrient as it prevents hair loss. B12 is necessary for hair follicles to properly replicate, without which they can’t grow hair effectively. Also, the hair follicles require proper nutrition and oxygen supply through blood and B12 promotes production of RBC in bone marrow. In case of B12 deficiency, the hair follicles won’t receive proper nutrition due to lack of RBC. Vitamin B12 is mainly found in meat and eggs and milk.
Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron, which helps in hair growth. As Vitamin C is not produced by the human body, it is important to eat Vitamin C rich food and/or take supplements. Sources of Vitamin C are:
- citrus fruits
- and green leafy vegetables
Studies have shown that this fat soluble vitamin can help in stopping hair loss. According to an animal study done at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, stimulated hair growth was noticed in nude mice that were given vitamin D3 supplementation. The study “Vitamin D3 Analogs Stimulate Hair Growth in Nude Mice” showed that hair growth is directly linked to high doses of vitamin D. Vitamin D stimulates the hair follicle growth and promotes better absorption of nutrients by hair follicles. Vitamin D can be taken in the form of D3 supplements.
Vitamin E plays a major role in maintaining healthy hair. It helps in building capillaries in the body and promotes better blood circulating on the scalp that encourages hair growth. Proper blood circulation to hair follicles can solve most of the hair fall problems and this helps in supplying proper nutrition to the hair roots.
Vitamin E can be supplied to the scalp topically, through hair oils, shampoos and conditioners rich in Vitamin E. Hair oil massage is a good way of improving Vitamin E supply to the scalp which promotes good hair growth. However, taking Vitamin E as supplements gives better results.
Most hair growth vitamins that help you grow healthy hair include Vitamin E as a major component. Major sources of Vitamin E are vegetable oils, soybeans, wheat germ oil, raw seeds, dried beans, nuts and green leafy vegetables.
